As we all know, everything Death touches, dies. So, one day when Death is walking through the forest, it sees a deer. Death wants to touch the deer and feels an overwhelming sense of longing and loneliness because he knows he can’t or it will die…and he doesn’t want it to die.
The idea that death takes living beings because he is in love with life isn’t a new idea. This version of Death is softer than most, metaphorically relating a more ‘human’ side of Death. It would make sense that Death is a sad spirit, with an unquenchable desire for contact and communication.
This is an incredibly well-done short video that was hand-drawn by Marsha Onderstijn, an animator from the Netherlands. The video has been well-received at various animation festivals. It was even featured on the EYE film DVD of Selected Dutch Shorts. Her website is almost up, and she has Vimeo now, so we can expect more excellence from her very soon, I hope!
